What is Acne? Acne is a skin condition caused when oil glands at the base of hair follicles become clogged with oil and dead skin cells. It can appear on your face, back, neck, chest and shoulders. The symptoms range from uninflamed blackheads to pus-filled pimples or large, red, and tender bumps.
What causes acne? Puberty causes hormone levels to rise. When hormones change it causes skin glands to produce more oil (sebum). Oil releases from pores to protect the skin and keep it moist. Acne begins when dead skin cells and oil are mixed together.
