Common Questions
BOTOX®, DYSPORT® or XEOMIN® POST-TREATMENT INSTRUCTIONS/INFORMATION
- DO NOT rub or manipulate the area that has been injected with the Botox solution. This can result in migration from the targeted muscle.
- DO exercise the muscle that has been injected with the BOTOX®, DYSPORT® or XEOMIN® solution for 4 ours after the procedure.
- DO NOT lie flat or move into a forward bending position for 4 hours after the procedure. Lying down (as for a nap) can cause the solution to migrate from the targeted muscle and lead to complications.
- Although some patients may experience treatment effect in 48 to 72 hours, most patients do not notice full treatment effect for 7 to 14 days following the treatment. Should you desire additional treatment, a 30-day wait is desirable.
- Although extremely rare, allergic reaction to BOTOX®, DYSPORT® or XEOMIN® serum can occur. If you experience EXTREME skin redness, swelling or rash, or SEVERLY swollen or puffy eyes, or SEVERE headache, you may be allergic or you may have developed antibodies to the BOTOX®, DYSPORT® or XEOMIN® serum from previous treatment. You MUST call the office immediately and be seen by the physician or go directly to your closet emergency room to confirm the reaction as allergic as well as be treated.

DERMAL FILLER AFTERCARE
- Immediately after treatment, there may be slight redness, swelling, tenderness and an itching sensation in the treated area. This is a normal result of the injection. The inconvenience is temporary and generally disappears in a few days. If it continues or if other reactions occur, please call us.
- The initial swelling after lip treatment may last longer. Some patients experience swelling for about a week and the lips can look somewhat uneven during this time. This means that the results directly after the treatment should not be seen as the final result.
- Avoid touching the treatment area 6 hours after the treatment. After that the area can be gently washed with soap and water and light make-up can be applied.
- Until the initial swelling and redness have resolved, do not expose the treated area to intense heat (e.g. sunbathing) or extreme cold.
- If you have previously suffered from facial cold sores, there is a risk that the needle punctures could contribute to another eruption of cold sores.
- If you are using aspirin or any similar medication, be aware that these may increase the bruising and bleeding at the injection site.
HOW LONG WILL A DERMAL FILLER TREATMENT LAST?
- Dermal fillers are long lasting but not permanent. You always have a choice to continue or change the combination of treatments – and the procedure can be repeated as often as you like.
- Most patients choose to have a follow-up treatment 6 – 12 months after an initial treatment of wrinkles. When the lips have been treated a follow-up is normally needed after about 6 months.
- A touch-up treatment within 2 – 4 weeks after the initial treatment may be necessary to achieve an optimal correction.

SCULPTRA AESTHETIC INSTRUCTIONS
- Do NOT take aspirin, Motrin, ibuprofen, Naproxen, Aleve, Vitamin E, Gingko Biloba, fish oil, St. John’s Wort, garlic pills, or other anti-inflammatory medications for 1-2 weeks if okay with your primary physician. These medications can increase the risk of bruising. For mild pain or headaches Tylenol is preferred.
- DO consider taking over the counter Arnica supplements (available at most supplement stores, Whole Foods, etc) starting 3-5 days before your treatment as they have been shown to decrease bruising.
- DO inform your nurse or physician if you have a history of medication allergies, history of anaphylaxis, and any other medical problems.
- The ideal time to schedule this procedure is at LEAST 2 weeks before a big event.
POST-SCULPTRA INSTRUCTIONS:
- DO massage the treated areas 5 times a day for about 5 minutes for 5 days after treatment.
- DO hold ice packs on the treated areas gently for about 3-5 minutes a few times that day.
- Feel free to wear makeup a few hours after.
- Treated areas may be red, swollen, and bruised for the first 2-7 days.
- Do NOT get a facial or massage for 2 weeks after your filler procedure.
- Avoid strenuous workouts and alcohol for 24 hours if possible.
- If bruising occurs, continue Arnica supplements, DO apply topical Arnica gel, drink fresh pineapple juice, and/or take Bromelain supplements to help bruising resolve faster.
- Bruising can be covered with makeup.
- A few days after treatment, you will look as you did before treatment. This is normal, over time, Sculptra will replace lost collagen.
FOLLOW-UP TREATMENT:
- Follow up treatments should be scheduled about every 4-6 weeks.
- Visible results may not be seen until 3 sessions have been completed.
- Results can last more than two years.
